About Boynton Beach

Boynton Beach runs from the Atlantic — the Boynton Inlet, the marina district and Oceanfront Park — west to the Turnpike and beyond, where the large master-planned communities of the past twenty years were built. That geography creates two different Boyntons: an older coastal city with a redeveloping downtown, and a suburban west side of gated communities and golf courses.

The west side is also home to one of the largest concentrations of active-adult communities in Florida. The Valencia communities, along with Aberdeen, Hunters Run and others, draw retirees from across the country, and the amenities reflect it. For families, the Canyon communities — Canyon Lakes, Canyon Isles, Canyon Trails — offer newer homes and highly regarded schools.

Buying in Boynton Beach — what we check first

In the 55-plus communities, age restrictions, club fees and the rules on guests and rentals are in the documents. We read them so there are no surprises after closing.

Golf-community memberships in Aberdeen and Hunters Run can be mandatory and significant. We separate the cost of the house from the cost of the club so you see the real number.

Coastal Boynton has older housing stock with the usual Florida questions: roof, four-point inspection, flood zone. We run the insurance quote early.

Boynton Beach questions we hear most

Is Boynton Beach mostly retirees?

The west side has a large active-adult population, but the city as a whole is diverse. The Canyon communities are full of families, and the coastal neighborhoods draw a mix of professionals, boaters and downsizers.

How is the beach in Boynton Beach?

Oceanfront Park is the city's public beach — well maintained, with parking and facilities — and the Boynton Inlet is one of the most-used inlets in the county for boating and fishing.

How does Boynton compare to Delray Beach?

Delray has the bigger downtown and higher coastal pricing. Boynton is generally more attainable, with more new-construction and active-adult inventory on the west side, and Delray's Atlantic Avenue is a short drive away.
